My Dear Family and Friends
Ten years ago, God placed upon my heart the Christmas Card Outreach for Inmates and with only a few weeks to pull off this task the first year. We were able to send out 140 Christmas Cards to individuals who would have not gotten any type of Christmas cheer thanks to all who took part in our first outreach. Last year we kick this off early hoping we would be able to reach more of God’s Children through our outreach efforts and were able to send out about 500 Christmas Cards. I am asking once again for your help in making this year’s outreach bigger and more bountiful than last year’s and praying that we are able to reach more Christians in joining this wonderful opportunity to share the true reason for Christmas. The birth of Christ and the beginning of our salvation after his 33 years among us, and lived without sin, only to die on the cross to pay the price of our sins. What a heartwarming feeling to share the Joy of Christ with another person during the Christmas season.
Over the past 11-1/2 years of serving God through Disciples of Christ Ministries and Pen Pals for Jesus. God has led many inmates and lost sheep to us. We currently have over 600 men & women asking for services in 41 States. Many who have no families, but have found salvation through Jesus Christ, and have chosen to walk with Christ in such a dark and sometimes overwhelming place.
When God first place this ministry upon my heart, I had no idea what I was getting into. However, today I am thankful for following the Holy Spirit and taking that first step of obedience to live my life serving God. Having faith in becoming a new creation "a child of God" saved only by His grace.
Having been on the receiving end of a Christian brother while I was incarcerated reaching into the House of Correction, running a Bible Study as a volunteer for more than 10 years. Sharing with me and other inmates the love of Christ, making me feel like I was someone who God loved. Giving me hope and building my faith that God still had a purpose for me in life. Offering me his help in growing in Christ over the 3½ years, while I was inside. Once I was released, he was still there for me, and he introduced me to other Christian brothers who had been praying for me for a good part of my sentence. Today I am still in contact with him over the past 8 years and have always been welcomed as a brother in Christ.
Therefore, if you think one Christmas card would not make a difference in an inmate life, you are missing a wonderful opportunity to share the true reason for the season. Giving new life to someone who was once lost but now is found. Turning their life over to God and serving him to bring the shining Light of Christ inside the walls of our prisons.
I have received so much joy and happiness in hearing how our sending birthday cards and other holiday cards to a fellow Christian who only have God in their life as their earthly families have nothing to do with them anymore. Let us continue that Light of Christ glowing and boost their walk in Christ, share the same love God gives to you. Jesus said in Matthew 25 verse 45 I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.
